Blizzard is cutting back on Heroes of the Storm - shrinking the game's team and cancelling its big esports events.

We’ve outlined those changes below, along with some reasoning and explanations behind the changes from the Live Design team. What’s Changing and Why: Making the decision to change the way stealth works in Heroes of the Storm wasn’t an easy decision. While we recognized that stealth Heroes in their previous incarnation did a great job of fitting the fantasy of their characters, we also identified that the stealth shimmer visual gameplay was extremely hard for a significant number of players to see, and was ultimately just an eye test for the opposing team. Previously, if the opposing team could quickly spot the enemy stealthed Hero, they gained a significant advantage while the stealthed Hero was left with very few options for counterplay. On the flip side, against a team that consistently failed to spot the shimmer, stealth Heroes could dominate the match and force players into a very passive and not-entirely-fun playstyle. Due to this, there was also a large disparity in the power level of stealth Heroes at different ranks of play. In uncoordinated Quick Match games, stealth was king. However, in high-level ranked play and esports, stealth Heroes were much weaker and hardly ever seen. With our upcoming changes to stealth, we want to remove the “eye test” mechanic and give both stealth Heroes, and the opposing teams, a better experience in matches. Here’s how:
Updating Stealth Heroes: With the easier to spot stealth visual, we’re not only hoping to alleviate the oppressive nature of stealth Heroes in Quick Match, but we’re also opening up the ability to enhance these Heroes kits and roles since a significant portion of their power no longer relies on them going unnoticed in combat. With these updates, we didn’t want to just do straight number buffs, but rather wanted to see if we could give these characters some new tools and tricks to play with. You can check out the highlights below or read the full patch notes from the PTR here.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this detailed look at the Stealth changes we are making in Heroes of the Storm. As always, please let us know what you think in the comments below and we’ll see you in the Nexus!
Staff will be moved to other internal projects, Blizzard said in a blog post today. There's no word on how many people will be left working on the MOBA.
Blizzard said it was a hard choice - repeatedly, using the phrases 'very difficult decision', 'tough choice', and 'we don't make these decisions lightly' - but the game's staff were now needed elsewhere.
'We now have more live games and unannounced projects than at any point in the company's history,' Blizzard said in a statement signed by new boss J. Allen Brack and creative chief Ray Gresko. 'We're also at a point where we need to take some of our talented developers and bring their skills to other projects.
'As a result, we've made the difficult decision to shift some developers from Heroes of the Storm to other teams, and we're excited to see the passion, knowledge, and experience that they'll bring to those projects. This isn't the first time we've had to make tough choices like this. Games like Diablo 2, World of Warcraft, StarCraft 2, Overwatch, and more would not exist had we not made similar decisions in the past.'
This isn't the end for Heroes of the Storm - Blizzard will still release new heroes and in-game events in the future, though at a slower pace. There's no word on how slow this will be.
The game's big Heroes Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm esports events are also being canned. 'We ultimately feel this is the right decision versus moving forward in a way that would not meet the standards that players and fans have come to expect,' Blizzard said on that.
Heroes of the Storm launched in 2015, when MOBAs were big business, but it feels like the industry has moved on. Despite its typically-polished Blizzard quality, it never found an audience as large as some of Blizzard's other big hitters. And out of Blizzard's current roster of games, Heroes would be the project you'd cut back on to focus elsewhere. I wonder where its team will end up?

Hey, I didn't play the game since few weeks ago, but even after reading some stuff about that Rework and playing few games, I still don't understand that.
Why can I see Stealth Heroes with an white halo now ? Even if it's last 1.5s in my opinion that's just stupid. Did they pick a bit of OverWatch overcasualisation to put that in Heroes of the storm ?
I'm playing a lot with Stealth characters, but even after few match, I don't recognize them now. I saw many comments saying that everything is better now, but I can't say if is better or worse, is just 'meh' to me.
I liked to run between turrets without being seen as Nova, or just put my clone to activate these turrets, but now I'm instantly marked if I'm doing that. Or just escaping an hard situation as Valeera, by seeing other players shooting everywhere in hope to kill me, but now it's way easier to them because they can see me 1.5s second more.
And Nova is slow now when she is Stealth. Before that rework, I remember that she get an 25% speed boost, and now it's something like 5%. Why ?
Heroes Of The Storm Stealth Changes
I need to play way more carefully now, and after few games, I was bored by this. My old playstyle miss me a lot and I can't get used by this new Rework.
Can someone explain to me how those stuff are working now ? Is that really better ? And why ? The game just don't feels the same to me, as an 'Stealth Heroes Main'. Do you like that new Rework ?
EDIT : Thanks to all people that answered me. I understand and share this new point of view a little more now, even if I still miss some old Stealth related features

If Cho is put into stealth by either Tyrande's ult or Medivh's level 20 talent, does Gall casting an ability break the stealth?
GhostshipGhostship
1 Answer
It doesn't break the stealth. Cho and Gall are considered different units in terms of damage dealing, as you might've seen in the score screen. It is the same interaction as when Abathur uses Symbiote on a stealthed Hero - he can attack freely while the Hero remains stealthed.
As a result, any action that will usually break the stealth / dismount a Hero cannot happen/will not interrupt if it is performed by Gall, since the body considered is Cho. For example, Gall's level 1 talent, Nudge, cannot be performed if Cho is mounted, as such a movement will normally dismount a Hero. However, Gall can still use all of his Basic and Heroic Abilities without dismounting or breaking stealth in this case.

Back at BlizzCon, Heroes of the Storm outlined its 2018 Gameplay Update patch, and today, that patch has arrived on the PTR. This patch includes a number of major gameplay changes such as a full rework to how Stealth functions, the removal of ammo from Forts, Towers, and Keeps, and new performance-based matchmaking. This patch also includes a larger field of view on the camera, changes to objective timers on many maps, and the new hero, Hanzo.
The stealth change is aimed at making stealth heroes a little more fair to play against — and less of an eye test. Previously, stealthed heroes were barely visible as a blurry spot on the map. Some players could pick it out easily among the chaos of a match, while to other players, the blur was nearly invisible. Now, stealthed heroes are easily visible while moving, but disappear completely after they’ve remained perfectly still for a short amount of time. While stealthed heroes still can’t be targeted directly, they can be knocked out of stealth with an AOE.
In exchange for being more easily spotted, stealthed heroes have all received buffs in other ways: Nova receives Snipe Master baseline, Samuro is gaining more control over his clones, Valeera receives a full-blown rework, and Zeratul has a new ultimate which repeats whatever ability he used last. Double Cleave, anyone?
Performance-based matchmaking is a huge change to ranked play, placing less emphasis on your win/loss ratio and more emphasis on how well you did or did not play in a match. If you’ve lost a game but performed really well relative to your peers, you’ll lose less MMR now than you would under the previous system. Blizzard has recently published a full walkthrough of how the performance-based matchmaking system works, which we recommend reading.

These are meaty, meaty patch notes detailing a patch likely to change how Heroes of the Storm is played at a fundamental level. The removal of ammo from structures means hanging back and allowing minions to push is a less viable strategy, and the changes to mercenaries alters when and how you utilize mercenary camps. Stealth heroes as a whole will need to rediscover their niche and the changes to objective timers means the entire tempo of certain maps has changed.
Remember: As mentioned in the patch notes, while Hanzo is a part of this patch, he is not yet available for testing. Hanzo will be playable starting the week of November 27.
